Happy New Year

Posted on

I was thinking about new year’s resolutions – and about how, most of the time, they just don’t work.  January is called after Janus, the ancient God of new beginnings and is usually pictured with faces pointing to the past and to the future. That is, to the end of one thing and the start of something new.  When making resolutions, we tend to think of endings – giving up things – habits or whatever.  Perhaps that’s where we get it a bit wrong.  How about making a new beginning?  Instead of ending or giving up something, eg smoking/eating badly/not exercising enough/drinking…, we could think of starting something new.

You could begin to do something really nice.  Something you want to do.   Imagine asking someone what their new year’s resolutions were and they say, ‘I’m going to eat a bar of my favourite 70% cocoa chocolate every week come what may.”  Or, “My partner of 20 years and I are going to go out on a date somewhere great once a week.”  Or, “I’m going dancing every month and on holiday every 3 months.”  You could make a list of your dreams for yourself – big and small things you’ve always wanted to do – and resolve to work through it.  Email me with your lovely new year’s resolutions at suzannethomas@suzannethomas.co.uk – and at the end of the year email me again and let me know what happened and how much you enjoyed it.

YOU CAN DO WHAT EVER YOU WANT TO DO

I WISH YOU A WONDERFUL HEALTHY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS 2014
